Kinshasa - Bad weather and high winds caused a boat overturned in eastern Congo. At least 72 people listed as missing.
The owner of the boat, Maneno Muzuka said seven victims have been rescued from an overturned boat on Lake Kivu. Chief Security Jeanmarie Bwishe Bukavu said there were 80 people who were on the boat at that time. The incident happened on Monday morning local time.
Congo is a country that has vast forests and large rivers in Central Africa with very few paved roads. Most of the Congolese population chose to use the boat even though they could not swim.
Boats sometimes in very bad condition and accommodate loads exceeding the capacity. Boat transport industry in the Congo are also not regulated properly.
