Asean suggests Nuclear Decline

JAKARTA - The Closing of the 18th Asean Summit in JCC, Jakarta today, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his capacity as chairman hinted that Asean reject nuclear energy.

"Asean has the same view about energy. We agree must not depend on fossil energy. On nuclear, the nuclear policy is long term and not. That there is a choice the nation is concerned," said President Yudhoyono when giving a press conference at the JCC, Jakarta , Sunday (05/08/2011).

"Learning from Fukushima, of course all parties must understand the use of nuclear energy. When ready, it can be done, if not, do not need to be done," continued the head of state.

The President added, "Especially for Indonesia, we choose renewable energy sources, in that context we do to reduce the fossil energy. "

Yudhoyono also explained about the meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. The President heard the perspectives of each of the two countries' border conflict.

"The difference is quite fundamental. Cambodia wants the presence of observers, while Thailand wants to do a bilateral meeting in advance, before the review comes to the border," he said.

Yudhoyono also said Indonesia in his capacity as chairman of Asean to provide package solutions. First, activate the joint border committee meeting, reviewing the memorandum of understanding between the two countries and requested the review team to be lowered.

Head of State also mentioned the meeting of Asean heads of state did not specifically discuss the world situation after the death of Osama bin Laden. But Indonesia ensure cooperation in preventing terror Asean will continue to run.
