14 People Killed by Flood in the Philippines

MANILA - The widespread flooding caused by torrential rains in some areas of the Philippines have killed 14 people.

As many as 10 people drowned in the village of Pulangui, one of 11 rivers overflowed and caused flooding. This information is conveyed by the Board of Management and National Disaster Settings.

In two incidents in Mindanao, a girl drowned in Cotabato City and a man was killed due to flooding from the River Lanang. Similarly, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (06/22/2011).

Some parts of Mindanao experienced very heavy rain in early June. A climatological, Dr. Edna Juanillo stated this is a heavy rainfall event that is not normal.

Floods that hit the Philippines in two weeks ago has destroyed cities in Mindanao and five cities with populations over 700 thousand.
