UN agencies threaten to stop operations in the Gaza Strip

It seems that the Palestinian National security forces stand guard to Hamas, near the border between the Karni, the Gaza Strip and Israel, the suburbs of East of the Gaza Strip, June 24, 2008.

GAZA - A UN agency that provides assistance to Palestinian refugees threatened to stop operations in the Gaza Strip if the protesters did not stop interfering with the work of this institution, local media said.

Dozens of local residents in the Gaza Strip have blocked the entrance and headquarters workers aid to Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) Agency as a protest against the decision of the Office of the cut programming help. "If they continued to block the door of the headquarters of the order, we will start thinking to stop our activities within the week," said UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness, a local, told journalists Thursday evening.

Gunness mentioned protests were not responsible for and makes no sense because the agencies of the United NATIONS to continue to provide assistance to Palestinian refugees a few services, such as the health care and education, despite a budget deficit of $ 35 million. UNRWA is almost entirely funded by voluntary contributions from the Member States of the United NATIONS.

The radical Hamas movement, who controlled Gaza Thursday, ignoring the threat of UNRWA to stop the operation and asked the Palestinians continued their sit-in at the headquarters of the Agency.
