Measles kills 600 people in the Congo

KINSHASA - Outbreaks of measles has killed 600 children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since January, said the humanitarian Mission of the United Nations in Kinshasa, Monday (25/7/2011).

The plague there was 115.600 children and killed children 1 145 between January and June, said the Office of the United Nations for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said in a statement." It encourages vaccination 3.1 million children in five provinces of the Congo, continued the statement.

The campaign began in may after the non-governmental organization Médecins Sans frontières (MSF) regrets the lack of giatnya of organizations such as the World Health Organization (who) with regard to what they interpret as epidemics "that can be controlled." The Democratic Republic of the Congo is now to also be the fight against the epidemics of cholera and polio.
