Earthquake hits New Zealand

Wellington - An earthquake measuring 5.2 Richter scale (SR) rocked Christchurch, New Zealand today. The quake caused electricity supply to the city was cut off.

Until now there has been no damage reported from the quake. While the death toll also has not been established in this earthquake.

"The power supply will drop out in several cities. But this is mainly due to electricity sub-station was automatically off when hit by an earthquake," said the New Zealand electricity company Roger Sutton told AFP on Saturday (16/04/2011).

New Zealand's second largest city ravaged This previous earthquake measuring 6.3 magnitude struck in February last year. The quake killed 181 people.

In September berkuatan SR 7.1 earthquake again rocked Christchurch, but the quake was not much cause significant damage to the city.

Based on data obtained from the Agency for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake that struck today centered 16 kilometers from Christchurch. Center depth of the quake was reported to reach nine kilometers.
