BEIRUT - Hundreds of women and children blocked the coastal highway in Syria to protest the arrest of dozens of residents in the middle of the repressive actions of the security forces.

Witnesses said the approximately 2,000 women carrying a white cloth and olive branches. They gathered on the highway between the coastal city of Tartous and Banias to demand the release of people arrested from Bayda and Beit Jnad. Similarly, as reported by the Associated Press on Wednesday (13/04/2011).

Residents and activists said hundreds of people arrested on Tuesday, April 12, when security forces and pro-government forces attacked the village of Beit Bayda and Jnad.

Demonstrations broke out in Syria since more than three weeks ago and rallies continue to grow by tens of thousands of people took to the streets demanding reform.
