BEIJING - A Chinese government media reported that the middle of a tunnel under construction collapsed and made 19 workers trapped inside.
Xinhua news agency said the workers from occupational groups in the area of road improvement Shangrila, Yunnan Province, buried in the tunnel. Unstable geological conditions which cause the tunnel that was dug by the workers fell apart.
It was also reported rescuers managed to dig up an emergency evacuation route as deep as 20 meters to reach the workers trapped inside the tunnel. It is quoted by the Associated Press on Wednesday (30/03/2011).
Xinhua news agency reported monitoring tool used by rescue teams still showed no sign of life inside the tunnel that collapsed.
Through the emergency lane, rescue teams continued to try to send water, oxygen, and power supplies into the tunnel.
