OSAKA - Japanese Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa said theteam is trying to prevent nuclear disasters at nuclear power plantsplan to cool the reactor with water for 24 hours.

"Instead of spraying water in several stages, we plan to set upoperations that allow us to drain the water continuously," Kitazawasaid as quoted by AFP on Saturday (03/19/2011).

Specially equipped vehicle from the Tokyo Fire Departmentre-make efforts at watering water reactor No. 3 at the Fukushimanuclear power plant.

So far, efforts to cool the reactor in the NPP performedintermittently. On Friday, March 19, six car fires poured 50 tons ofsea water into the plant.

The earthquake and tsunami had damaged the reactor coolantsystem. It sparked an explosion and fire at reactor. Japaneseauthorities have since then continued to attempt to keep the fuel rods are not out of the reactor and fuel storage pool.
