Yemeni President on the verge of Losing Power

Ilustration
BRUSSELS - President of Yemen Ali Abdullah Saleh on the verge of losing his power after his support to continue to decline. President Saleh has been abandoned even by the military that had been supporting it.

"The power of President Saleh's unlikely to last long," said Hugues Mingarelli EU official quoted by AFP on Wednesday (23/03/2011).

"I expect the president's powers will not last, seeing some of the military, tribal leaders and some party political coalition kept away from him," continued Mingarelli.

Mingarelli further assess Saleh would not be able to cope with the uprising in the north and the withdrawal of support from residents in the southern region. In addition, Saleh is considered not able to overcome feelings of helplessness among the youth of Yemen and the brunt of terrorist organizations.

"Not all areas successfully controlled by him (Salih). The situation in Yemen will be more dramatic and may change extensively in the next few days," according Mingarelli.
